Created in 1899, the watch known as the “Universelle” is one of the most complicated watches in the world. Its 1,168 components, including 316 screws, offer 26 functions, including 19 different complications.

1839年5月1日，兩名波蘭移民，Antoni Patek（商人）和Frantisek Czapek（鐘錶匠）於日内瓦共同成立了 “Patek, Czapek & Cie”。
Patek 先生於1844年在巴黎遇見了法國鐘錶匠Adrien Philippe 先生。當時，Adrien Philippe先生展示了他開創性的柄軸上弦和使用錶冠設置時間的系統。1845年，當 Czapek決定離開公司，繼續自己的事業時，公司更名為“Patek & Cie”。
之後於1851年，Philippe 先生正式加入到公司，公司更名為 “Patek Philippe & Cie”。後來，於1901年再次更名為“Ancienne Manufacture d’Horlogerie Patek Philippe & Cie, S.A.”。
於日内瓦擁有一間精細錶盤製造廠的Charles and Jean Stern兩兄弟於1932年收購了該公司。從此之後“Patek Philippe S.A.”。
